GATE

Is an Anime about a gate that opens in Japan to another world, ruled by an empire of swords and magic. They have beast people and all sorts of additional fantasy elements, such as a demigod of death and an order of knights. The anime does a good job making the military JSDF "Japan Self Defense Force" look capable and in almost every way, superior to the forces of the empire. The last few episodes as we make it to the end have focused on a confusing final aggression of the empire's corrupt leader and the person corrupting them.

Personally, I think the characters don't get a lot of explanation, but it has still been a fun ride.
Itami is the main character. There is an elf named Tuke, the apostle / demigod of death Rori and a young magician named Lelei. Princess Pina is important too, as is her brother who ends up emperor. The ex-wife of Itami gets involved too, she is friendly when they go back to Japan for a bit.

Itami is quoted saying: "My Otaku life always comes first!"

24 Episodes at about 24 minute runtime each. I would say "wow how does Sarah binge shows like this" but since I've just been in and out of sleep while it's been playing I understand it a bit more this time. It's a distraction from feeling like crap from the sickness we have at this time.
