I haven't been using this too much, but I've been tinkering with it this morning along with cloudflare static sites via their workers. This is the best way to host a static site I've seen in ages. I sometimes hate fucking around with nginx if I'm being honest. I get messed up and this just seems to work and I haven't hit a cost point even. I don't think I will. I get to keep my custom domains (that's a cost point but not what I was talking about). I can get all of my domains showing something, not just forwarding. Which is GREAT!
Using Cloudflare I think I could password protect the page and even host something that needed to be secured. I set some hotkeys command-]
and command-\
for git commit and sync and build to html.
Content can be added via mobile and will sync via git, but I have not moved the build process off of local, meaning you need to make the html files and commit for the site to update.
I don't think this is a problem, but it means that if I don't have my laptop I can only prepare content and not publish. It would be nice if and changes triggered an automatic commit and sync. Would my laptop just need to be open then? Still not a worker build, that might need to be something different altogether.
This is an edit made remotely from my phone, the obsidian app for the iPhone has some flaws but it seems to be working at this moment.
I have sync setup using iCloud, but something similar like Google Drive would work (as long as you don't open the files in google drive, I tried that, google hates markdown and makes a google doc copy version of anything you open)
When I opened my laptop again, I was able to continue working on the page from the changes I made and can publish. How can I make it so that I can publish from the phone?
I think that will be the next step for https://qst4.com which is currently a "meta project" a project about my projects. It's just a .md file and a converting script that uses typescript, I should be able to make a CF worker that can build when the repo is updated. But I can't get the git plugin for obsidian to work from Obsidian iOS. The Export Vault to HTML plugin doesn't even show up on Obsidian iOS.
I am also probably going to clone and modify the template project which I think I'll point the template to https://cfss.qst0.com and then spin off a private protected site for https://msnyng.com where if you try to go to any page other than the root, it will ask for a password. I'll do this with a CF Domain Rule, or at least, I think I can.
I would also like to solve the timestamp macro feature that I like to have in my note taking.
This is nicely solved by the google workspace chip @now, but I don't have something like that. Is there a template / auto replace that I can use?
I am trying something called Typinator, it has this function for the mac, but the license costs $40 so that's a no from me, but if it doesn't bother me too often while I try it, I'll for sure think about using it. It's exactly what I need and it's scope and use is much further than this context. 2025-05-31 / 18-59-22, hmm, needs better format 2025-05-31 @ 19:02:36
I just type dtt to get that and vv pastes. Some pretty cool stuff, but not required to make this work.
